11th Grade students who took the October 2009 PSAT now have free access to a new online tool to help ensure that they are better prepared for the SAT.
This tool, The Official SAT Online Course™, features:
• 18 interactive lessons

This tool is in addition to the online resource, My College QuickStart™, a free online college and career planning kit, which is also free for all students (Grade 9 Institute, 10th and 11th graders) who took the PSAT in October.

ATTENTION PARENTS - SIGN UP FOR SCHOOL UPDATES
The City’s public notification program, Notify NYC, now sends updates for emergency situations at school and other events that have an impact on the school day by phone, text message, or e-mail to parents and guardians who sign up for the service. The service updates parents about delayed school openings and early dismissals, student relocations, and temporary school closures related to weather or other unexpected events. Parents and guardians can choose to receive alerts for up to five zip codes, and will receive notifications about schools within those zip codes. Sign up either by visiting www.nyc.gov/notifynyc or by calling 311.

Planning a family vacation?
Family vacations should be planned to coincide with vacation days and weeks of the annual school calendar. Please be aware that teachers are not obligated to make prior arrangements for assignments, projects, and other instructional activities involving work that has not yet been presented. Student absence for vacation will also be treated as an unexcused absence. You should also be aware that teachers cannot be expected to extend their normal workday to provide remediation or to administer tests for students who have been on vacation, nor shall teachers be required to repeat lessons that were given during the vacation period. Please keep this in mind when planning your next family vacation.

H1N1 Update
Health experts recommend vaccination as the best way to protect children against H1N1 and to prevent the spread of the virus.
The weekend clinics offering free vaccines to middle and high school students are now over. However, additional vaccines are still available at other clinics throughout the City. If your elementary, middle, or high school-aged child has not yet received a vaccine, call 311 or visit www.nyc.gov/flu for a listing of locations where you and your child may get vaccinated. If you have questions and/or concerns about H1N1, please visit www.nyc.gov/flu or contact your physician. All community members—adults and children alike—should remember to take basic precautions against the flu, like washing hands regularly and covering coughs. Working together, we can keep our students safe and healthy this flu season.
